These showreels are made up of music videos, which required direct experience handling every facet of 2D Animation – from storyboarding, character design, background art, compositing, directing, and drawing the thousands of frames that make up a few minutes of animation.
Skipping formal education, I learned animation by making flip books for my songs in 2009. Through experimentation with both traditional and digital media. Much like in a dream, many scenes are edited to flow seamlessly as one continuous shot, evolving from one environment into another.
Metamorphosis, growth, and decay are recurring themes.
(Sorry, just trying to think of some pretentious art crap to write here for the copy. Hey, at least I didn’t use the word “juxtaposition”. I don’t know what I’m talking about, I just draw cartoons).
The Animation below was primarily animated on paper. This was before I started using TVPaint, which is my favorite 2D animation software for emulating the traditional cel animation aesthetic.
